"To create one of these woven images, I begin by digitizing a photograph.  The number of colours (or grey values) in a scanned photograph is reduced; then, using software designed especially for creating textiles, I replace each value with a weave (a weave is the way in which threads interlace; the dark- and light-coloured threads mix to produce effects that are either more or less dark-coloured). I then weave the image by hand on a Jacquard loom in my studio, using linen, cotton and metallic thread."
