My initiation into woodworking came at an early age. It was during the many hours I spent watching my grandfather build sailboats that I learned the skills I use today. In 1997 I took over and successfully ran small business mass-producing pine furniture. After 3 years of valuable lessons and a growing sense of disenchantment with mass production, I felt I needed to change direction. Now living on Vancouver Island and working from my home-based workshop, I can produce my work in small runs and as one of a kind pieces.

The inspiration for my work comes from the wood itself. The unique peculiarity in colour, grain and figure of each species helps me to determine what form the finished piece will take. I use only oils and clear finishes to enhance and protect the natural beauty of the wood. The beautiful colours in my work come from the woods themselves, not stains.

I want my work to maintain a connection to where the materials originated, clean lines and natural beauty. If I can create a piece that honours the tree that supplied the wood, then I have succeeded.
