Sid Dickens was born in 1963 in Prince Rupert, a small fishing town on the West Coast of British columbia. He works a a commercial fisherman until age 28 dedicating his spare time to drawing and painting. Dickens studied at Emily Carr College of Art and Design, travelled Europe and continued to grow and learn about the many areas of art and sculpture and during that time, developed a personal vision for himself.
After studying and travelling extensively, Dickens settled in a studio
in Vancouver and began to work with his preferred medium, plaster. In
1991, he created the first prototypes for his series of decorative wall
plaques, naming them 'Memory Blocks'. These works are highly acclaimed
and thousands are sold worldwide. They have attracted the attention of
both celebrities and the media. Dickens has the ability to tranform old
connections from the past into enchanting collectibles for today.
