Tom
Miller
"The
realist paintings of Tom Miller are careful interior constructions or thoughtful
landscapes - his work is a combination of compostion and structure and
we are somehow transported by the simplistic beauty of what he paints.
A bowl of lemons or a flowering quince in an oriental vase
beside
a couple of books becomes a life in itself. Similar to the way a photograph
stops us as we recreate the memory of the image, Miller's paintings stop
us and we are drawn into a kind of meditative state as we address the simple
calm that his works portray.
Tom
Miller majored in art at the University of Redlands, California, and received
his M.F.A. in painting from the University of Iowa in 1969.
Since
then he has worked as an art teacher, designer of theatrical productions
and painter. He has exhibited regularly since 1985 and has participated
in solo and group exhibitions in Montreal, Toronto, Victoria, Vancouver,
Florida and California. Miller's work can be found in corporate and private
collections in Canada, the United States and Taiwan. Tom Miller lives in
West Vancouver."
