are attracted to the universality of the symbols, which are inspired by
Ancient Asian, Egyptain, South American and Native American symbolic patterns
and the basic repeating patterns of the zigzag, spiral, and wave.
"I look for symbols that have meaning for me." Mintern says.
"The simplest symbols are the most powerful." . A majority of the
work done is commissioned, so consultation with clients during the design
process is essential, Mintern says. |

Mintern, whose background includes jewelry work and pottery, believes
metal work allows him to combine his talents into one medium. He works
primarily with brass, iron and copper, melding artistic symbols and motifs
into the structure of functional pieces such as chairs, coffee tables,
candle holders and wall sconces. |
