| MICHAEL TICKNER
Trained in London, England at the prestigious London School of Art, Michael Tickner moved to Canada in 1975. He began selling his art in Stanley Park and from 1975 to 1983, he had many successful, one-man exhibitions in Vancouver galleries. His collectors also hosted numerous private shows of his works and soon from British Columbia to New York City, New Zealand and London, his style of bold and colourful works became easily recognized.
Taking a two-year sabbatical from his artwork in 1983, Ticker reevaluated his life and his art work and in that time, evolved to a new spiritual level in both. The artist states that his work reflects a great sense of fun, a love of a life filled with high-energy and that this is also his philosophy of life.
Tickner's bold and defined shapes and colours give his work a clarity and definition of style that is pleasing to the eye. The sharp, juxtaposed shapes and contrasting colours move the eye through the painting and describe his personal style. These contemporary landscapes are an evolution of his playful approach to his lifestyle.
"My feeling about being an artist is that artists develop language. The more you practice your language, the more fluent you become in it and the easier it is for people to understand what you are saying. What could be better t han being busy at something you love? He asks. I'll be doing this 'til my days end."
